National Apprenticeship Week 2022! #Build the Future!

 

In our fifth installment of our interview tasters for #NAW2022, we speak to Cian Short, Early Careers Manager (Bakkavor). Bakkavor are one of the UKs largest food manufacturers, employing over 16,000 people across 23 locations in the UK with further sites in China and the USA. They produce ready meals, salads, pizza, bread and desserts for all of the “big four” supermarkets and beyond.

Cian has been in the food & drink manufacturing sector since he was 16 years old and has worked in various training and learning and development roles at Bakkavor for the best part of a decade. In his time as Early Careers Manager, Cian has doubled Bakkavor’s apprenticeship intake year on year and was heavily involved in the development of key Trailblazer Apprenticeships, including acting as Chair on the Food & Drink Process Operator apprenticeship standard.

Louise has been with the NSAFD for over 14 years, spending the last 4 years as CEO. Louise has unparalleled knowledge and experience of the skills landscape in the food and drink sector and has been involved in the development of the standards most critical to the workforce of the future for food and drink. Beyond this Louise previously owned and ran her own training provider and has operated as a Skills Consultant to the food and drink sector for over a decade.

 Jill is a well respected and much loved influencer from the world of apprenticeships who has worked tirelessly to promote careers and apprenticeships within the food and drink sector. Jill has been the lead on Apprenticeships for Nestlé for over 7 years and prior to that worked in learning and development in the dairy industry.

Sharon is highly regarded in the world of apprenticeships and early careers, is a member of the judging panel for the annual apprenticeship awards and is a multi-award winner herself including being named Apprentice Champion of the Year in the 2021 (National Apprenticeship Awards), named Forward Ladies 2021 Corporate Leader Award and most notably was awarded an OBE in the New Years Honours list for her services to apprenticeships.

Andy has worked in the construction and trade supply sector for over 30 years and has been involved in learning and development, within the Travis Perkins group for over 20 years. This includes roles ranging from Store Manager, Divisional Director, and Apprentice Levy Design Lead to his role now, as Head of Apprenticeships.
